Microbes & Man 2 Minute Tease Presentation – Leptospirosis

Not the best singing & recording but this was late into the night and I was too tired to do anything more lel

I will be presenting on leptospirosis, a water-borne bacterial disease that can infect both dogs and humans. The shelter from which I adopted my dog, Haru, runs a doggy pool business for some income. In July however, their pool was issued an isolation order, as 12 reported suspected leptospirosis cases between the 27th of June and 14th of July were traced back to the shelter’s pool. It was suspected that the urine of infected rodents might have contaminated the pool, which might have then infected the dogs. After further screenings and investigations, the pool was reported to be clear from leptospira bacteria and could resume business. I think it is important for people and dog owners to realize how easily this disease can spread, and to be aware of how to identify its symptoms.
